Don Pedro Picnic

DON PEDRO STATE PARK FISHING AND PICNIC LUNCH

This fishing and picnic outing has now become annual springtime event, and is held in late March or early April. For those not familiar with the Park or the picnic details follow.

Don Pedro State Park is located on Little Gasparilla Island, and is only accessible by boat through a small channel near Marker #38 on the Intercoastal Waterway. There is limited docking at the park for about 12 boats, available on a first come basis and cannot be reserved. Activities at the Park include swimming, fishing, shelling and walking the trails around the island. There is a large covered pavilion, tables, grills and restrooms.  There is a State Park parking fee of $2.00 per car which you must pay. There is also "normally" a boat usage fee at the dock, but the "Club" pays this fee for all members on our  "Picnic Day".  The club also operates a shuttle ferry on the picnic day.  Procedures to participate are as follows:

Date & Times:  Sat.  March 22, 2014  10:00am - 2:00pm
 
Lunch about 12:00 Noon.
Shuttle Ferry  9:30am - 10:30am and reurn starts at 2:00pm.
Ferry leaves from Cape Haze Marina at the Freedom Boat area. Exact departure information will be advised at March  13 General Meeting.

Transportation:  If you choose to come via your own boat we suggest  you come early and "boat pool" as space is limited.  If you choose NOT to use your own boat, or do not own a boat, the Club will be operationg a "shuttle  ferry" from Cape Haze Marina from 9:30 am to 10:30 am  and back from the Island starting at  2:00 pm  You must sign up for the shuttle ferry at the March 13 meeting or with Tom Ammatucci 941-456-0060.  

The Picnic: Lunch is a 12:00 noon. Participants must bring their own beverages, ice, sunscreen, beach chairs and fishing equipment & bait PLUS a dish to share that would complement a beachside picnic. The club will furnish and cook hamburgers and hot dogs, buns, condiments, plates, napkins, eating utensils and charcoal. You must  sign up/reserve for the picnic at the March 13 meeting or with John Livecchi 941-235-3593. 

Fishing Day:  There will also a fishing contest at the picnic with prizes for the 3 largest (heaviest)  legal fish , and a special prize for the largest fish caught by a junior angler under 12  landed from the Don Pedro beach area. Full details will be announced at the March 13 regular meeting. All members that sign up for the "Picnic" are automatically entered, and the weigh in must be before 12:00 noon.

3rd Place  Bill Crooks    1.4 lb. Sheepshead

Again, Sign up sheets will be handed around at the March 13 meeting.   Reservations are a must. If you cannot attend this meeting you can make reservations directly with Tom or John.
